Registration
Procedures
If event popularity is determined by early registrations, then without
a doubt the Chequamegon Fat Tire Festival has set the bench mark as
the most popular event in the history of the sport. This became evident
during the 1997 Festival weekend, when the 2,500 person limited registration
of the 1998 Chequamegon sold out one year in advance in just 24 hours.
In an effort to fairly manage the event's tremendous popularity,
a registration lottery procedure was established in 1999. It is used
to fill the 2,500 person field limit; consisting of 1700 spots for the
Chequamegon 40 and 800 spots for the Short & Fat. Please take note
of the details of this procedure outlined below.
Obtaining An
Entry Blank
Those wishing to receive an entry blank have two options.
There will be an electronic version of the entry blank posted on this
web page on or about the middle of February. It can be printed from
the page, filled out and submitted
with payment by the March 15 postmark date to be included in the lottery
drawing.
Or if you prefer the snail mail option, individuals can submit a
self-addressed stamped business size envelope with a note requesting
an entry blank. Entry blank requests for next year's event will be accepted
anytime between September 1 and March 1.
If you come to the Chequamegon event in the fall, you can purchase
a stamped envelope at the registration sites and leave it to be mailed
later. Please indicate "Entry Blank Request" on the stamped
envelope that you submit.
On or just before March 1, entry blanks will be sent to all those requesting
them. One entry form per request will be sent. If you would like additional
copies of the entry blank, feel free to make photocopies to distribute
to others.
Submitting An
Entry Blank
March 1 through March 15
If you wish to apply for a registration spot, there is
a two week window of opportunity to complete the entry blank you are
sent and return it to our office with proper payment.
A random lottery will be used to select the 2,500 entry positions
from the completed entries submitted. Participants who wish to be included
in the lottery must complete the entry blank, enclose the proper fee
amount and return it in a business size envelope marked "Entry
Blank" on the front, to the Chequamegon office postmarked by March
15.
To accommodate family and team entries, up to four entries can be
included in each envelope submitted to the Chequamegon office.
Please submit only one entry per person. Duplicate individual entries
discovered during the lottery process will be disqualified from the
lottery drawing.
Completed registrations will be accepted only if postmarked by the
March 15 deadline. Completed entries postmarked after March 15 will
not be included in the registration lottery.
Selection
of Entrants
After March 15
Shortly after the March 15 postmarked deadline, the drawing for entry
spots will take place. The first 1,700 Chequamegon 40 entries and first
800 Short & Fat entries selected in the random draw will be accepted
for the coming years's cross country events.
Envelopes containing entry blanks that are incomplete, do not have
checks included with them or have more than four entries in them will
not be accepted if drawn during the selection process. Duplicate entries
discovered during the drawing process will be disqualified.
Confirmation
of Entry
Prior to May 1
Confirmation cards will be sent to the 2,500 participants
whose entries are selected as soon as we can process them after the
March 15 selection. If you were not selected your entry form and check
will be returned.
It will take at least a month to process the accepted and returned
applications. By May 1 you will be notified if you are in or not.
Please no phone calls, faxes or e-mails to confirm your entry until
we have had a chance to punch them into our database. If you have questions
about this procedure write or call our office at PO Box 267; Cable,
WI 54821; 715-798-3594.
