Chequamegon Entrants Help Save the Trails
To help financially support mountain bike trail advocacy efforts for the
benefit of off road cyclists everywhere, the Chequamegon Fat Tire Festival
offers a "Save the Trails" check off donation box on the event entry form
each year. The check off box gives participants the opportunity to send
along a voluntary donation for trail advocacy. Donations received from
the 2,500 Chequamegon participants are totaled and then split between
the local trail group, the Chequamegon Area Mountain Bike Association
(CAMBA) and the International Mountain Bike Association (IMBA)
This year was a banner year for the Chequamegon Fat Tire Festival's "Save
the Trails" fund raising effort. Just under $10,000 was contributed by
approximately 475 Chequamegon participants. This all time high contribution
will greatly aid the advocacy efforts of CAMBA and IMBA. For further information
about these groups contact CAMBA at www.cambatrails.org
or IMBA at www.imba.com.
Thanks Chequamegon riders!!! You have really helped to "Save the Trails"

As of 5-1-02, all registration data has been processed. By now everyone
who sent in their entries for the lottery drawing should have either received
their confirmation cards in the mail if they were chosen or their checks
and entry blanks back if they were not picked in the lottery. Occasionally,
some things get lost in the postal shuffle so if you haven't received
either please contact our office at cheqfat@cheqnet.net for clarification.
Please take a close look at your confirmation card to check the information
for accuracy. If there is a discrepancy contact our office so we can correct
our database.
If your entry was returned consult else where on this web page for the
details of the "50 Ways to Ride the Chequamegon" essay contest that will
award fifty reserved registrations to the authors of the best essays about
why they want to ride in the event. Another way to participate in the
event is as a member of the Chequamegon-Clif Bar Clean Up Crew. Both those
notices can be found under the INFORMATION page on this web page.
Those of you who requested a preferred start should have a "To Be Determined"
in that field. We will be researching all the requests and making those
decisions sometime in early June. When the decisions for the preferred
start placements are made you will be sent a new confirmation card. This
week we will be mailing out the pre-race issues of Fat Tracks. In this
issue you will find complete information about the upcoming event including
a weekend agenda, race information, course map and additional items of
interest.

Good luck to all of you who have sent in your registrations by the March
15 postmark deadline to be included in the 2002 Chequamegon Fat Tire Festival
entry lottery.
The actual drawing will take place on March 20, 2002 at Telemark Lodge.
Please bear with us as we complete the lottery drawing and time consuming
process of inputting the entries into our database. Shortly after the
drawing is completed, the first thing we will process are the entries
that were not chosen. Those people who were not picked in the drawing
will have their entry forms and checks returned as soon as we are able
to process the returns. This should happen within a few weeks following
the drawing date of March 20.
The next item on the processing agenda will be to punch in those who we
have chosen in the lottery to be included in the 1700 Chequamegon 40 and
800 Short & Fat entry spots. In the past this processing has taken us
about four weeks to complete. We won't send out confirmation cards until
all the entries are processed. Don't expect the confirmation cards to
arrive until sometime after May 1. If we get them done prior to that date
they will be sent out earlier.
Thanks for not calling in to confirm your entries until we have them punched
in our database files. So if you don't get your check and entry back by
the early part of April there is a good chance that you got in the event.
Another indication of being drawn and accepted is that your check for
payment will clear you bank. Other than that we will notify everyone with
the confirmation card as soon as we can.

As the winter sun climbs higher in the Northwood's sky the Chequamegon
Fat Tire Festival staff once again comes alive with the anticipation of
the 2002 event registration lottery.
As you should know by now, entries are limited to 1700 in the Chequamegon
40 and to 800 in the Short & Fat. A pre-registration lottery is held after
the March 15 entry blank postmark deadline to determine the lucky 2,500
who will be enjoying the 20th Anniversary of the Chequamegon Fat Tire
Festival sponsored by Trek to be held on September 13-15, 2002 at Telemark
Lodge in Cable, Wisconsin.
Those of you who haven't already requested an entry blank can do so in
two ways. Either send us a self-addressed stamped business size envelope
at PO Box 267, Cable, WI 54821 as soon as possible. Entry blanks will
be mailed between February 15 and March 1. Or if you prefer you can log
onto this web site and down load a printable pdf file copy to mail in.
COMPLETED ENTRIES AND PAYMENT MUST BE POSTMARKED BY MARCH 15 TO BE INCLUDED
IN THIS YEAR'S LOTTERY.
Check under Information and then under Registration on this web site for
completed details of this year's Chequamegon registration lottery.
